Every student who is accepted to a UWC is required to sign a universal UWC Code of Conduct. This Code of Conduct sets out the collective expectations the UWCs have for its students, and all expectations exist to insure that we all live in safe, respectful and responsible UWC communities. Academic integrity is not only an expectation in the UWC Code of Conduct; it is also a requirement in the IB program. Academic dishonesty is not tolerated by any UWC, nor the IB, and that includes presenting someone else’s written work as your own.

This application is your application, and you are fully expected to complete it entirely on your own. Failure to do so will result in a denial of your application, ineligibility to apply to any UWC in the future and, if it is determined after you have been admitted to UWC that you had inappropriate assistance with your application, your offer will be rescinded, your space at UWC withdrawn. We don’t expect your responses to be written in perfect English, nor for your ideas to be polished. UWC will help you perfect your English and teach you to present polished ideas. We expect you to present yourself, and if you advance to the interview stage of the application process we are going to spend a day comparing what you submitted in your application with the person you are on interview day. Be yourself throughout the application process and you will have a much better chance of acceptance. You will also feel so much prouder when you are actually offered admission.

Blaise Pascal, the famous 17th century French philosopher, is often credited with the saying “If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter”. Indeed writing something in fewer words is often much more difficult then writing something with many words. In your responses to the following short questions and essay we ask you to take the time to write something that fits within the prescribed word limit.

UWC reserves the right to require to withdraw a student if there has been a failure to disclose a medical, physical or mental disability. Please note that UWCs will accept applications from candidates who have known handicaps over which they have control and which will not deteriorate significantly while they are at a UWC. Students must be functionally independent to attend a UWC. For students with disabilities, please bring a medical statement from your doctor to the interview.

Historical illness will not necessarily disqualify any applicant or undermine her/his chance of being invited for the selection day. The JSC needs to know the background of the applicant so that the school can determine whether or not has sufficient facilities or personnel to take care of the student. If the applicant chooses not to disclose historical record here and it turns out later that the situation is beyond the school’s ability to support the student, then the JSC reserves the right to withdraw the student without refund.
